Registered architect FAQs
Straight answers on NSW registration, who signs off at giantA, and when you need a nominated registered architect versus a building designer or Registered Design Practitioner (RDP).
Who is the nominated registered architect at giantA?
Martin Robert Taylor is our Nominated Architect in NSW (Architect Registration Number #10509). He reviews and signs off Class 2, 3 and 9c regulated building designs under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 where a registered architect is required. Meet the wider practice on this page, or see how we scope hire work on architectural services and Class 2 building design NSW.
How do I verify a registered architect in NSW?
Use the official NSW Architects Registration Board — Find an architect register. Search by name or registration number. giantA lists Martin’s NSW number (#10509) publicly so you can check it yourself — the Board register is the source of truth, not our website.
Registered architect vs building designer vs RDP?
In NSW, registered architect is a protected title under the Architects Act — only people on the NSW ARB register may use it. A building designer (often BDAA-accredited) prepares design documentation for many NCC Class 1–10 projects that are not complex; that is a large share of residential and commercial work. A Registered Design Practitioner (RDP) is a DBP Act registration for regulated designs (notably Class 2 and related). One project can involve more than one of these roles. We explain pathways on architectural services and Class 2 on Class 2 building design NSW.
Does every project need a registered architect?
No. Many houses, dual occupancies, renovations and non-complex Class 1–10 jobs are led by building designers with council or certifier documentation. A nominated registered architect (and often RDP declarations) becomes essential for regulated Class 2/3/9c work and other scopes where NSW law requires a registered architect. Tell us the site and building class — we will say honestly whether architect sign-off, RDP, or building-design lead applies before you engage.
